Marion County Sheriff's detectives are searching for a man involved in a violent home invasion and sexual assault that happened at a Jefferson home on Friday.
Deputies tell FOX 12 they believe this was a random act of violence, which is extremely rare in sexual assault cases.
Deputies say the man, knocked on the victim's door on Elm Street just before 2:30 p.m.
He reportedly asked for directions and then suddenly forced his way into the house and sexually assaulted the woman, who was home alone at the time.
Neighbors of the victim say she is a loving mother and grandmother. They also said she was already dealing with serious health problems, and this attack makes things that much worse.
"She's been through a lot of things these past couple of years. This has got to be hard for her, I just hope she's doing better," said neighbor Joshua Benjamin.
"We are neighbors and we take care of each other," said neighbor Harold Compton. "If he decides to come to my house, you know most people here have weapons, and he won't be leaving. If he leaves, he will be leaving in an ambulance."
Deputies describe the attacker as a white male in his 30s, 5'11"medium build, with dark, short hair. He appeared unshaven to the victim.
The victim noticed a tattoo on the inside of his left wrist, which looked like HHH or III depending on the angle. Deputies say the victim spotted another tattoo of a devil's head on his right biceps.
At the time of the attack, the victim says he was wearing very dirty clothing, including a black jacket, white T-shirt with holes in it and a black baseball hat.
A vehicle associated with the man is a light blue Honda, possibly an Accord.
