Suspect detained after police chase in Sandy

SANDY, OR (KPTV) -

Clackamas County deputies said a chase suspect has been taken to Portland Adventist Hospital for a mental evaluation.

A sheriff's office spokesman said deputies saw a man speeding on Highway 212 on Wednesday morning.

They started to pursue him, and eventually caught up to him in the 60000 block of Sleepy Hollow Drive in the Sandy area. Spike strips were used to bring his car to a stop.

Deputies detained him, then took him to the hospital.

Authorities said the suspect is well-known to officers.

There's no word yet on whether the man will face criminal charges.

Because of the police activity, Sandy High School went into lockdown mode around 7:10 a.m. That's 10 minutes before classes start. Most students were just arriving on buses at that time so staff members met them and escorted them in.

The lockdown was lifted within minutes.
