10 Persian cats going up for adoption at Humane Society

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Persian cats are a rarity at animal shelters in Oregon, but 10 such cats will go up for adoption this week at the Oregon Humane Society.

The cats were surrendered by an overwhelmed breeder who was unable to care for so many animals.

Oregon Humane Society staff said the breeder was receptive to an offer by the Humane Society to find permanent homes for the cats.

The Persian cats range in age from 2 to 15 years. They have been bathed and groomed and are in good health.

Their long coats require owners who can provide frequent combings and the occasional bath. And because their coats get easily tangled, the Humane Society recommends Persians be indoor-only pets.

Among the cats up for adoption: Tortes, a 4-year-old torti-point Persian. There's also Rags and Paulette, plus one Siamese cat.

The cats should be ready to go home to their new families Friday after they're spayed or neutered. Each cat comes with initial vaccinations, microchip ID, a collar and a vet exam.

Photos of the cats are posted at www.oregonhumane.org.
