Report of a suicidal man leads Vancouver police to shooting suspect

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

Vancouver police say a report of a suicidal man led them to a shooting suspect.

Police arrested Freddie Gonzales late Friday night.

Officers say they responded to calls about a fight involving a gun outside the St. Johns IGA Grocery Store in Vancouver.

They found Gonzales and took him to the hospital for a mental health evaluation, but say he escaped.

Later that night police got a call about a suicidal man at a home near the store and found Gonzales.

Police say in September Gonzales tried to shoot a man in the head but missed and the bullet grazed the man's ear.

He is charged with attempted murder.

His bail is set at $400,000.
