Pastor gets chance to thank paramedics who saved his life

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Brentwood pastor and avid jogger had the chance to say thank you Friday to a new group of friends whose quick action saved his life.

The last time Rob Taylor saw the first responders from Nashville Fire Station 8, he was in full cardiac arrest, unconscious without a heartbeat.

But the men and woman from paramedic ambulance 20 brought him back to life.

"I just want to say thanks for what you guys do and let you know how much I appreciate it," Taylor said, greeting the first responders Friday.

Taylor doesn't remember the day in June, when he collapsed while jogging. Neighbors, then paramedics, performed CPR and unquestionably saved his life.

"It's good to see these guys, someone you don't know and yet you do know. And words always fall way short," Taylor said.

Also appreciative is Taylor's wife of 28 years, Lou.

"These fire stations and these paramedics, we drive by all day unaware, but when you need them, and understanding that they're there, it's such a treasure for both of us," Lou Taylor said. "I'm eternally grateful that I'm going to get earthly time with the man I love."

Days like this almost never happen for first responders. They're often too busy, heading to the next call. That's what made this reunion so special.

"To actually see someone, and talk to them and meet their wife, it's pretty amazing, very amazing. It's the first time in my 20 years it's ever happened," said Nashville paramedic Stuart Rhinehart.

The message today from those first responders was that everyone should learn CPR, not just paramedics. It truly could save lives.
