Market robbery interrupted by customers, suspect at large

SHERIDAN, OR (KPTV) -

Police are asking for the public's help in finding a man who tried to rob a Yamhill County store with a note that demanded money and threatened harm to the cashier.

The suspect walked into Bill's Market at 836 East Main Street in Sheridan at about 1 p.m. Friday afternoon. He didn't appear to be armed with a weapon.

Moments after the suspect handed the note to the cashier, three customers came into the store.

The suspect left quickly, before he was able to steal any money.

The suspect ran to a nearby vehicle and jumped into the passenger seat. The vehicle took off northbound on Cherry Hill Road.

No one was hurt in the incident.

The suspect was described as African-American man between 25 and 35 years old with a medium build. He was wearing a black jacket over a dark gray hoodie, dark colored jeans and black tennis shoes with white edges. 

His was also wearing dark sunglasses, and was described as having a "stubble beard."

Detectives would like anyone with information to contact the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office.
