3 key Timbers players to miss rivalry match

PORTLAND -

Three key Portland Timbers players will miss Sunday's match with arch-rivals Seattle Sounders F. C..

On Tuesday the team announced that forward Ryan Johnson, defender Alvas Powell and forward Rodney Wallace will play in the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Jamaica called up Johnson and Powell.

They'll face the U.S. Men's Team at Sporting Park in Kansas City on Friday.

Wallace will travel with Costa Rica when they visit Honduras Oct. 15.

All three players will miss Sunday's match at JELD-WEN field when the Green and White take on Seattle.

The Timbers are currently in third place in the Western Conference and are very much in the hunt for their first-ever spot in the MLS playoffs.

Sunday's match starts at 6 p.m.
