BRISTOL, TN (WJHL) -

 

Bristol Tennessee Police are trying to find the man who used a knife to attack a person outside a pain clinic and steal medication.

"it's the first time we've ever had this type of thing happen," said Lt. Debbie Richmond, Bristol Police.

It happened October 1st outside a clinic in near State Street.   A 
man described by witnesses as Hispanic with a dagger on his forearm rushed a patient entering the clinic, cut the victim on the chest, grabbed medication and ran.

Police say as much as they want to arrest the man and bring him to justice, they hope this case serves as a reminder to others to be on guard.

"If you do have narcotics or you do have any type of pain medicine, make sure you keep that in a secure location, locked in the glove box, locked in the console," Lt. Richmond said.  "And when you get out of your car don't have your medicine out in the open where other people can see it."

Richmond said people should not panic.  Instead, they should be cautious.

"You don't need to worry that when you go to the doctor someone is going to approach you," she said.  "Just always be cognizant of your surroundings."
