A hospital in The Dalles has been ordered to pay more than $2 million to women who were sexually abused by a doctor.
Dr. Frederick Field pleaded guilty to rape and 11 counts of sex abuse in September 2012. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
On Tuesday, a jury reached a verdict in the lawsuit filed against his former employer, Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles.
Investigators said Fields sexually abused the women while they were sedated for surgery. The victims alleged the hospital was negligent for the crimes that occurred during Field's five years at the hospital.
Jurors ruled for three plaintiffs and ordered Mid-Columbia Medical Center to pay them a total of $2.4 million. The three victims were awarded between $700,000 to $900,000 each.
Field was arrested in July 2011. Once he completes his prison sentence, he will have to register as a sex offender.
