Troubled former Oregon tight end Colt Lyerla was booked into the Lane County Jail Wednesday night.
The Sheriff's Office said they were working an unrelated drug case in Eugene when they spotted Lyerla snorting what appeared to be a white powdery substance inside a parked car. He was contacted by police and admitted to using and possessing cocaine.
Police say he agreed to meet detectives at his home but then attempted to escape into a nearby apartment.
He was later arrested and booked on charges of unlawful possession of cocaine and interfering with a police officer.
Lyerla left the University of Oregon football team earlier this year for personal reasons. He was an honorable mention all-conference selection last year.
He also missed two games earlier this season for unknown reasons and he stirred controversy in the offseason when he suggested on Twitter that the Sandy Hook shooting that killed 20 children was a conspiracy.
