At 2 in the morning, the last thing a homeowner wants to see is a stranger standing at the door.

When that stranger gets aggressive, it becomes even more frightening.

Lars Wahlstrom said early Tuesday he found Hector Cruz-Sosa pounding and kicking the back of his house.

As he was calling 911, Wahlstrom said he noticed Cruz-Sosa had moved to a window where he was trying to break in.

The commotion woke up his wife, who decided to reach into the closet to grab a weapon: a Louisville Slugger baseball bat.

Wahlstrom said when Cruz-Sosa shattered the glass and came in, he held him at bay with the bat.

It was then that Wahlstrom said the man told him he had to come in because he was running away from two men who had been pursuing him.

He even took out his wallet and offered to pay for the window.

"There's something wrong with this guy. He just breaks it in, and he really appeared to me to be absolutely scared," Wahlstrom said.

Deputies arrived and took Cruz-Sosa into custody.

Wahlstrom said they later told him the man's strange behavior might have been due to meth.

Wahlstrom said he suffered some minor cuts from the broken glass but is otherwise OK.

Meanwhile, Cruz-Sosa is being held at the Washington County Jail.
