CAMAS, WA (KPTV) -

Camas Police have arrested 21-year-old Michael Garwood after several headstones were vandalized at the Camas Cemetery. He is charged with 15 counts of violating laws governing the protection of cemeteries and malicious mischief. He is expected in court on Thursday.

Police say there may be more suspects involved. On Wednesday, officers found that 16 headstones had been disturbed, many of them in the Pioneer section of the cemetery.

It appeared that the headstones had been toppled over, and some of them broke as a result, police said.

According to a news release from the police department, the cemetery was plotted in 1885 by the Camas Colony Company. The Camas Cemetery Association operated the 30-acre cemetery for more than 80 years before transferring ownership back to the City of Camas in 2007.

The Camas Public Works Department, which maintains the cemetery, is working on getting the headstones repaired, police said.

If anyone has information regarding this case, they are asked to call the Camas Police Department at 360-834-4151.
