A teenager is behind bars, accused of shooting two people in southeast Portland two weeks ago.

The 15-year-old victim of that shooting died from his injuries days later while the other victim survived and we're told remains in the hospital.

That shooting happened near southeast 92nd and Southeast Holgate on Oct. 11.

Silvano Velasquez, 18, was in court Friday afternoon for arraignment on charges related to the deadly shooting.

Velasquez was arrested on Thursday night in connection with the shooting that killed Abukar Madey, 15.

A woman who says she is Velasquez's grandmother told Fox 12 that their hearts go out to the family's victims.

On the night of the shooting, police responded to the area of southeast Holgate and 92nd, near the MAX stop.

Police found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Abukar's family said the 15-year-old was shot in the head and died two days later.

Alex Ramirez, 22, suffered from several gunshot wounds but he survived. His condition is not known.

For two weeks police tried to locate the shooter and even released surveillance pictures from the MAX stop in the area.

Eventually that led police to Velasquez.

Abukar's family believes that Velasquez and some of his friends were harassing Abukar just before the shooting.

They say it was Ramirez who was defending Abukar.

"They are saying that the person who got shot was defending Abukar on the MAX because the suspect and four others were ganging up on Abukar on the MAX that night," said Sahra Ali, Abukar's cousin.

As Velasquez's family left the courtroom, his grandmother made a quick statement about Silvano to the media.

"He's a good kid. He's a very good kid," said the grandmother as she walked out of court.

During court, Velasquez gave his family the peace sign and his family waved back.

That upset the victim's family and they said Velasquez has "no soul."

Velasquez remains in jail on numerous charges including murder and attempted murder. His next court date is set for Nov. 4.
