Suspect killed in police shooting after Hillsboro traffic stop

HILLSBORO, OR (KPTV) -

A suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Hillsboro on Friday night.

Police said it all began at 9:30 p.m. when a Honda Accord was pulled over near 13th and Maple for a traffic violation.

The officer had a K-9 and it alerted to the possible presence of drugs in the car. The officer approached and asked the male passenger in the front seat to step outside.

Investigators said he then pulled a semi-automatic handgun on the officer and fired at her at close range. The officer, who has not been identified, was not hit. She fell to the ground and her partner returned fire.

The suspect was hit by the officer's gunfire. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, according to police.

The suspect's name and age have not been released.

Police said three other people were also in the car. They were all taken into custody by police.

The officer who was shot at was taken to the hospital as a precaution, officers said.

Roads were closed in the area for hours on Friday as police investigated.
