A fugitive wanted in Colorado and Nevada was caught in Oregon.

Oregon State Police responded to a reported disturbance and assault at a motel in Cave Junction at 12:43 a.m. Tuesday.

Troopers said they found a 36-year-old man with stab wounds on his forearms at the Junction Inn. He told investigators he was cut while defending himself from an assault.

A suspect was found in the area and taken into custody. Police said after initially providing a false name, the suspect was identified through fingerprints as Jeffrey Mathes, 37.

Mathes had a U.S. Marshals Service warrant for drug-related crimes, along with parole violation warrants in Colorado and Nevada.

He was booked in the Josephine County Jail on charges of being a fugitive from justice, assault, menacing and disorderly conduct. Police said additional charges are pending.

The stabbing victim was treated for his injuries, according to troopers.
