Sandy tattoo artist struck by hit-and-run driver

SANDY, OR (KPTV) -

Police are searching for the driver who hit a well-known tattoo artist in the small town of Sandy early Thursday morning.

Tracey Lamance said her son, Dusty, and a friend were walking to the 711 on Highway 26 at about 2 a.m. when a truck swerved off the road and hit him.

Dusty's friend called 911 but wasn't able to get a good vehicle description.

"He very well could have been killed," said Tracey.

She said her son, who is recovering at Legacy Emmanuel Medical Center in Portland, has a broken leg and some bruises on his face. He will need weeks of treatment and physical therapy before he is able to get back to work.

Dusty just opened Royal Flesh Tattoos and was doing some work at the parlor Thursday morning when he and his friend decided to take a break and walk to the 7-Eleven, she said.

"If my son's friend hadn't have been there, Dusty would have laid there until somebody would have found him," said Tracey. "At 2 a.m., there's not a lot of people out walking the streets."

She said her son is now facing huge medical bills and, with no one to run his tattoo parlor in his place, is in bad financial shape.

Tracey doesn't know why the driver didn't stop but has this message for them.

"Just do the right thing and come forward," she said. "You hear it on the news every day now. People are getting hit. Little kids are getting killed and nobody's stepping forward. And somewhere they have to have a conscience, somewhere inside."

Tracey said the truck that hit her son looked like a moving truck, according to witnesses.
