MEDFORD, OR (KPTV) -

The FBI says a man in dark clothing was seen in the area where a bomb blast damaged the district attorney's office in Medford on Wednesday morning.

Medford police were called to the scene at 715 W. 10th St. at 4:38 a.m. Officers said a propane tank was on fire when they arrived.

Investigators said an unknown suspect attempted to detonate the propane tank with "some type of explosive device."

The tank did not explode and the fire went out on its own, according to police. The single-story brick building did not catch fire, but the windows shattered and other damage was discovered to the outside and inside of the office.

If the tank had fully detonated, Lt. Mike Budreau told the Medford Mail-Tribune that "it would have most likely destroyed most of the building, and we believe that was the intent of the suspect."

An estimate for repairs was not immediately available.

There were no reports of injuries - the explosion happened before regular office hours.

KOBI TV reports that while no arrests have been made in the "targeted" attack, Budreau says police are searching for a man who ran from an officer several blocks away. Authorities aren't sure he's connected to the explosion.

At least 25 investigators from six different agencies are assisting with the case, with more agents on the way, according to Medford police.

The Joint Terrorism Task Force is also investigating.

The Jackson County District Attorney's Office is closed until further notice.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call 503-224-4181.
