Vancouver father of four dies in crash

Posted: Updated:

A father of four from Vancouver died in a single-car crash Sunday evening.

The crash that killed Adam Newstrom, 28, happened just before 7 p.m. on Jackson Highway near Ray Road.

Oregon State Police said that Newstrom was a passenger in a car driven by Jonathon Reno, 42.

According to troopers, Reno was driving drunk and at a high rate of speed when he hit a guard rail coming around a left hand corner and crossed the centerline.

The car then hit a power pole on the passenger's side before coming to rest in a ditch.

Newstrom died at the scene of the crash.

Paramedics took Reno to PeaceHelath Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver.

Reno is expected to recover.

Troopers planned to take him to Lewis County Jail when the hospital released him.

State Troopers are continuing their investigation into what caused the crash.

Neither of the two people in the car were wearing seat belts, troopers said.

Family set up a memorial fund under Adam Newstrom's name at Wells Fargo Banks.
