FOREST GROVE, OR (KPTV) -

Police arrested a 23-year-old man Sunday evening after the suspect allegedly totaled a car and badly damaged an RV parked in a driveway of a Forest Grove home.

Johnathan Thuemler is facing charges that include hit-and-run, criminal mischief, reckless driving and heroin possession.

The crash happened at about 3 a.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of Willamina Avenue.

Police said Thuemler was driving a truck when he crashed into Phil and Barbara Cameron's Buick that was parked in their driveway.

"We were just in shock to see what happened and that somebody just drove away from it," said Barbara Cameron.

The force of the crash sent the car crashing into an RV parked next to it. Both vehicles were heavily damaged. The couple slept through the crash and was alerted by a neighbor who heard the sound.

"I was asleep, and I heard a loud bang, and it almost sounded like a bomb," said Nicol Kemper. "Like a firecracker bomb going off."

The Camerons said police used surveillance video from cameras on a neighbor's house to identify the vehicle involved. Officers found the truck parked in the suspect's driveway a few blocks away.

"I just want people to take responsibility," said Barbara Cameron. "We had a horrible tragedy. This pales in comparison to what happened to the little girls here in town. But I'm just tired of people not owning up to it and taking responsibility for what they've done."

The couple estimates the damage at up to $40,000. They have insurance but are hoping the suspect's insurance covers the damage.
