Oregon farmer sues to overturn state ban on raw milk ads

MCMINNVILLE, OR (KPTV) -

An Oregon farmer is suing to overturn the state's ban on advertising raw, unpasteurized milk for sale.

According to the lawsuit, the ban violates the free speech rights of Christine Anderson.

She owns Cast Iron Farm in McMinnville.

Oregon bans retail sales of raw cow milk but allows farms to sell it if the farmer has fewer than three cows.

Anderson says she feels she has the right to talk about her products, and that's why she's fighting the ban.

If raw milk farmers violate the ban, they face thousands of dollars in fines and could even end up behind bars.
