PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police officers are investigating an armed robbery and attempted carjacking that happened Tuesday night near a North Portland park.

Two 18-year-old men told detectives that they were sitting in a parked car next to Farragut Park about 9:15 p.m. when two African-American men came up to the car and asked them for a cigarette, police said.

When one of the victims opened the passenger's side door, one of the men pulled a handgun from his waistband and demanded property from both victims, police said.

The other man also pulled out a handgun and one of the robbers tried to take the keys from the ignition, but they broke off, investigators told FOX 12.

The robbers were last seen running westbound on North Terry Street.

Several officers, including a police K-9 Unit, searched the neighborhood, but did not locate anyone matching the robbers' descriptions.

Both of them are described as African-American men and 18 to 20 years old.

One of them was wearing a red hoodie and the other had on a white hoodie when the crime took place, police said.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact robbery detectives at 503-823-0405
