Woman claims she found snake head in bag of green beans

GLADSTONE, OR (KPTV) -

She just wanted to cook some green beans for her family, but a Gladstone woman told FOX 12 that wasn't all she got in a bag she bought at Fred Meyer.

Misty Moser claims she found what appeared to be a snake head in a bag of Kroger Value brand frozen green beans.

"I thought it was a heart to something at first," Moser said.

Moser said she was cooking dinner for her children on Thursday night when her sister noticed something strange. They ran some cold water on a chunk of what they thought was green beans, she said. The chunk appeared to have a mouth and a neck, she added.

"I started panicking, and I actually had to ask everybody 'What does this look like to you?' because I could not believe it was a snake head," Moser said.

Moser said she called the phone number printed on the bag, which happened to be Kroger's corporate offices. Kroger owns Fred Meyer, a spokesperson said.

Moser said the person who answered the phone took her name and the bag's serial number then told her to throw everything away.

Moser was offered a $15 coupon for Fred Meyer, she said. But when she said she wasn't satisfied and threatened to take legal action, she claims the woman told her they would need to take the coupon back and send her concerns to the claims department.

"I would like to see them a little more concerned with something as serious to make as a snake head. Like what if one of my kids would have eaten that?" Moser asked.

A spokesperson for Fred Meyer told FOX 12 that the person who took Moser's call did not follow protocol. They should have told Moser to go back to the store where she bought the bag so that staff could inspect it and file a report. Moser never did that, the spokesperson said.
