GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

A road rage incident led to an assault and stabbing in Gresham, and police are now asking for help tracking down the attacker.

Police were called to Northeast Kane Drive near Stark Street at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22. Butch Smith, 39, of Gresham, said he was driving his 18-wheeler in the area when a man in a car pulled in front of him and blocked the truck from moving any farther.

Police said the suspect then got out of his car, climbed up to Smith's window and punched him in the face.

Smith said he opened the door and knocked the attacker to the ground. The two men fought until the suspect stabbed Smith in his left side and took off.

Smith was treated and released at the hospital.

The suspect is described as a white man with brown hair, 5'10" tall and 190 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans and a baseball hat.

The car was a silver or tan colored sedan.

Police believe multiple vehicles passed by the scene and would like to speak to possible witnesses or anyone who has information about this case.

Call detectives at 503-618-2652 or use the Gresham Police Department tip line at 503-618-2719 or 888-989-3505.
