GRESHAM, OR (KPTV) -

A good Samaritan was stabbed trying to break up a fight between a man and a woman.

Gresham Police responded to the 300 block of NE Cleveland Avenue just before 9 p.m. Friday and found Kit Haberman, 29, of Portland, suffering from a stab wound to his stomach.

Police say the whole thing started near Northeast 6 and NE Cleveland Avenue when Pedro Nunez-Valdivia, 45, got into a physical fight with his wife, Maria Rodriguez.

Authorities said Haberman saw the fight and tried to intervene, but in the process was stabbed by Nunez-Valdivia, who then left the area.

Rodriguez suffered a minor cut during the fight.

Haberman was taken to OHSU where he was treated and has since been released.

Nunez-Valdivia was caught nearby and is now facing charges of assault, unlawful use of a weapon and domestic violence strangulation.

Police are still looking for any witnesses who were not contacted on Friday night. If you have information about this case you're asked to contact the Gresham police tip line at 503-618-2719.
