A memorial service is planned at the Clackamas Town Center to mark one year since the deadly shooting at the mall.
Jacob Roberts opened fire in the mall at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 11, 2012. He shot and killed Cindy Yuille, a hospice care nurse from Portland, and Steve Forsyth, a business owner from West Linn who had a kiosk at the mall.
Kristina Shevchenko, a teen from the Portland area, was also shot and survived.
Investigators said Roberts fired a total of 17 shots, including shooting and killing himself, from a Stag Arms AR-15 semiautomatic rifle he stole from a friend.
Investigators estimated 8,000 to 10,000 people were in the mall as the shootings occurred over a span of less than two minutes.
Roberts, 22, had no criminal history, no history of violence, no known ties to the mall and no history of diagnosed mental illness, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office investigation. As a result, investigators said they were unable to determine a motive for the crime.
At 5:30 p.m. this Dec. 11, family members of the victims and local clergy will speak at a memorial service and candlelight vigil at the Clackamas Town Center.
Organizers said the theme is, "Remembrance and Resolve."
The program will include a musical performance and a moment of silence for the victims. The event is open to the public.
It will be in the open area on the north side of the mall near the movie theater.
