According to police, an officer jumped out of the way of a speeding vehicle that ultimately smashed his cruiser.
The collision occurred at about 12:42 a.m. near the intersection of Southeast 170th Avenue and Southeast Haig Street.
The officer was outside of his vehicle talking to a person about an unrelated matter when he heard a car coming toward him at a high rate of speed.
The officer moved out of the way as the car side-swiped his cruiser.
The suspect car continued a short distance before stopping. The driver of the vehicle was given a field sobriety test and wound up getting arrested on charges of DUII and reckless driving.
The identity of the driver has not yet been released.
No injuries were reported.
