Outdoor events see drop in visitors because of cold weather

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

With temperatures dropping, many are passing on outdoor holiday traditions this year, to stay warm.

Around this time, Alpenrose Dairy and the Oregon Zoo are typically packed. Both put on special events for the holidays.

This year, however, employees say turn out is lower than normal, along with the temperatures, because Portland is seeing some of the coldest weather in the last 20 years.

Even those who brave the frigid forecast, can't stop talking about it.

"It's cold," one dairy visitor said.

"It's cold, but at least it's not too windy," a zoo visitor said.

Most have said they're combating the chilly weather by wearing extra layers, stopping by warm areas at each spot and drinking lots of hot coffee and hot chocolate.
