FOREST GROVE, OR (KPTV) -
Icy roads led to more than a dozen crashes in Washington County on Thursday night.
Emergency crews described the conditions in Forest Grove and south of Hillsboro as being like black ice that clearly caught people off guard.
Several crashes were reported at Minter Bridge, as well as on Gales Creek Road.
Deputies suggested that people stay home, if possible, or at least slow down when driving.
Fortunately, none of the crashes were believed to be serious, according to deputies. Firefighters said they have also not responded to any injuries involved in the collisions.
Fox 12 Chief Meteorologist said it wasn't fresh freezing rain that led to potentially dangerous driving conditions Thursday night, but instead when the sun went down and the temperatures dropped, the wet roads froze over.
A similar situation could develop overnight Thursday and into Friday morning's commute. With temperatures likely within a few degrees of freezing on the west side of the valley, any clearing means icy spots could develop.
Freezing rain is not in the forecast for Friday, however.
