NEWPORT, OR (KPTV) -

A Newport man is accused of grabbing a girl playing in the snow and attempting to sexually assault her.

Police were called to an apartment complex at 110 NE 60th St. at 4:45 p.m. Dec. 6. Officers said a man had abducted a 7-year-old girl who was with a group of friends and pulled her into some bushes.

The other children began yelling and the victim's mother was alerted to the situation. She ran after the suspect, who then released the girl, according to police.

The man ran off, but investigators identified Jesse Greene, 28, as a person of interest in the case. Officers served a search warrant at his home the following day and said clothing and other evidence linked him to the crime.

He was booked in the Lincoln County Jail. On Thursday, a grand jury indicted him on charges including kidnapping, attempted rape and attempted sex abuse.

His bail was set at $2 million. He is due back in court Monday.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or other incidents involving Greene are encouraged to call Newport Police Department Detective Mitch France at 541-574-3367.
