PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A man accused of attacking a TriMet bus driver was arrested in north Portland Friday night.

Police said the assault happened on the Line 4 bus while it was parked at North Richmond and Syracuse Street at 10:50 p.m. on Thursday. Police released a surveillance image of the suspect on Friday.

At 6:30 p.m. Friday, an officer from the Transit Police Division spotted a man who looked like the suspect at North Fessenden Street and Charleston Avenue.

The suspect, identified as Daemon Bowman, 39, was stopped and arrested.

Police said the bus driver was repeatedly punched after informing the rider that he did not pay the correct fare. Bowman began yelling at the driver and then began hitting her, police said.

The driver was able to fight off the suspect, who ran away.

The bus driver then made a panicked emergency call to dispatchers, saying the attacker struck her 15 times in the head.

"He hit my head. He threw me in the back behind the driver's seat because I was trying to get away from him," she said.

She told the dispatcher she suffered injuries to her face and had skin missing from her forehead. She later received medical attention at the scene.
