Roads icy around Portland Metro area

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Slick roads are already causing problems around the metro area this morning.

Areas of black ice have contributed to some accidents.

Many school districts are delaying the start of the school today because of icy conditions. So far, the Beaverton School District is the largest to announce a two-hour delay.

A driver in Battle Ground lost control on their way home from work last night and went into the ditch on 199th just east of Highway 503.

The driver wasn't seriously hurt, but it did cause his air bag to deploy.

Icy conditions have led to some crashes along Marine Drive in North Portland.

If you have to drive this morning, experts advise taking the following precautions:
  • Leave extra space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Brake gently to avoid skidding.
  • Use low gears to keep your traction, especially on hills.
  • Be careful on bridges and overpasses.
