PORTLAND -

Portland police arrested a man and a woman suspected of committing a robbery Wednesday.

Detectives spotted the pair boarding a TriMet bus Wednesday afternoon.

They followed the bus from the Gateway area until members of the Special Emergency Reaction Team, Portland's equivalent of SWAT, were able to assist and safely arrest the suspects.

The arrests happened in Downtown Portland at Southwest Fifth Avenue and Morrison Street. Nicholas Thomas, 25, and Andrea Rae Childers, 28, were both taken into custody on the bus.

Detectives had previously identified Thomas as being involved in several Portland business robberies.

Thomas' arrest was in connection with robberies at the Venture Inn in Northeast Portland on Oct. 23, Foxy's on Southeast Division Street on Oct. 24 and Devaki's Deli in Northeast Portland on Dec. 11.

Thomas was charged with one count of robbery in the first degree and three counts of robbery in the second degree. Childers was charged with one count of robbery in the second degree.

Detectives booked both suspects into the Multnomah County Jail. They are expected to be arraigned on Thursday.

Anyone with information about these suspects is asked to contact Detective Brent Christensen at (503) 823-0842 or brent.christensen@portlandoregon.gov.
