GLADSTONE, OR (KPTV) -

Gladstone police investigators are looking for witnesses in the death of a 5-month-old baby whose body was dumped at Milo McIver State Park in Estacada.

Officers said the baby, Rowdy Sterling-Michael Nelson, died at the Budget Inn in the 19200 block of Southeast McLoughln Boulevard, and then was taken to the park by his mother and father on Saturday, Dec. 7 between 11:15 a.m. and 2 p.m. Police said the baby was put in a maroon bag that was used to transport the body from the SUV to the park.

Police said two days passed, and then the baby's mother contacted a Gladstone police officer to report her baby may have been murdered and dumped in a Clackamas County park.

A search and rescue team began looking for the baby, and found the frozen body at about 2 a.m. on Dec. 10. The body was located near a tree stump off a trail at Milo McIver park.

Though an autopsy was completed earlier this month, the cause of the baby's death is still unknown.

Police said the father, 20-year-old Dylan Nelson, and the 19-year-old mother, whose name hasn't been released, were driving a blue 1989 Chevrolet Blazer with an Oregon license plate and a broken passenger window when they drove to the park. From there, they drove to the Roadway Inn on Astoria Way in Salem.

The SUV has been recovered and is no longer of interest, but police are hoping witness information can help them in their investigation.

Detectives want to speak with anyone who has been in contact with Nelson since Dec. 7, or who may have been at Milo McIver State Park on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m.

They haven't gone so far as to call Nelson a suspect in the case, but say he is a person of interest.

Tips can be called in by dialing 503-557-2792.
