Portland police and firefighters responded to a serious car crash near Union Pacific train tracks in Northeast Portland on Tuesday night.
Preliminary reports were that a car crashed into a moving train in the 2700 block of Northeast Lombard just after 8 p.m. However, it turns out the car hit a guard rail, spun out of control and landed on train tracks.
With the man trapped inside the car and fearing the car would be hit by oncoming trains, police and firefighters lifted the car off the tracks.
Crews then used hydraulic cutters to cut out the driver's side door and remove the driver. He was taken to Emanuel with non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
