Multnomah Falls, OR (KPTV) -

Search and rescue crews located four hikers Thursday night who got lost earlier in the day near Wahkeena Falls.

The young women arrived back at their car in the parking lot near Multnomah Falls at around midnight. They were in good spirits and cold, deputies said. None of them were hurt.

"We just want to thank the search and rescue crews," one of them said as they made their way back to their car.

The hikers used a cell phone to call 9-1-1 around 5 p.m. Thursday after realizing they were lost, deputies said. They were hiking Wahkeena Falls toward Multnomah Falls but didn't realize the Benson Bridge at Multnomah Falls was closed because of a large rock that struck the bridge last week, deputies said.

The group started back up the trail, but they got turned around as darkness set in and did not have a flashlight with them, deputies said.

The first search and rescue team left from Multnomah Falls at around 8 p.m. to go find the hikers, deputies said. They were found just before 9:30 p.m.

The Benson Bridge at Multnomah Falls is closed indefinitely until repairs can be made. The U.S. Forest Service hopes to have the work complete by Memorial Day.
