Winter continues its stronghold on the eastern two-thirds of the United States.
The upper Midwest is preparing for another shot of bitterly cold air. Forecast high temperatures are expected to be below zero for many locations in North and South Dakota as well as Minnesota for much of this week. Along with the cold temperatures, snow is in the forecast. Minneapolis and other major Midwest cities will receive some light accumulations of snow during the cold snap.
Those along the east coast and New England won't be spared, either. Daytime high temperatures in the single digits will have people shivering all week long.
As the east coast freezes, the west coast continues to be bone dry. Drought conditions extend up and down the west coast and into the southwest.
