SILVER FALLS, OR (KPTV) -

A 10-year-old boy is recovering from a 40-foot fall that happened at Silver Falls State Park.

The fall happened Sunday afternoon when the boy fell from a trail near South Falls while hiking with his father. Oregon State Police said the boy leaned against a railing to take a break. The railing gave way and he fell approximately 40 feet down the hill, landing in a shallow area of water.

The boy's father went down to his injured son and carried him across the creek where they waited for emergency responders. Personnel from Sublimity Fire District and Woodburn Ambulance arrived on scene. The boy was transported by ATV out of the hiking area to an ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators have not released the boy's name. OSP will check with the boy's father on his condition and ask if it is OK to release his name.
