Man who suffers from Parkinson's makes plea for bike's return

ALBANY, OR (KPTV) -

Family members said someone stole a bicycle from a man with Parkinson's disease.

Glenda and Timothy Mulrooney say the thief stole the bicycle from right outside their home in Albany.

Timothy Mulrooney suffers from Parkinson's and family members say he is confined to a wheelchair 90 percent of the time.

The only time not spent in the wheelchair was on the now-stolen bicycle.

"He uses that bike just to ride up and get the mail," Glenda Mulrooney said. "He can ride, he can ride his bike."

Timothy Mulrooney told Fox 12, "It was one of the few things in my life I enjoyed doing. [The bicycle] means a whole to me and parts to somebody else."

The Mulrooneys say the bike was several years old and nothing fancy. They never chained it up because they never though someone would want to steal it.

"It's hard," said Glenda Mulrooney. "I can't believe anyone would do this. We're senior citizens for God's sake."

The Mulrooneys are hoping the bicycle thief has a change of heart and brings it back.

FOX 12 asked Albany police about the reported theft. An officer confirmed a police report had been filed.
