MILWAUKIE, OR (KPTV) -

Crime Stoppers is now offering a reward up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of a man accused of a violent kidnapping in the Milwaukie area.

Kelly Vern Swoboda, 49, was identified by deputies as the man who walked into a tanning business on Highway 99E Monday night, attacked an employee and forced her into a purple minivan.

Court records show Swoboda has a long criminal history and has spent much of the last 20 years behind bars. He has been sentenced to prison and released three times, twice on bank robbery convictions.

At 9:30 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to initial reports of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Southeast Oatfield Road. It turned out the kidnapping victim had escaped the moving van.

Investigators said the link to Swoboda was developed from a fingerprint at the crime scene.

Police have released a photo of a van believed to be similar to the one Swoboda was driving, a 1989 to 1996 Dodge or Plymouth van.

Swoboda is considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, call 911.

If you know where he is or have any other information about this investigation, leave a tip at www.crimestoppersoforegon.com or call 503-823-HELP.
