Police are investigating an online blackmailing case involving nude photos of a McMinnville girl.

Investigators said over the course of the last month or so, an underage girl was friended on Facebook by an unidentified person.

At some point, that person convinced the girl to send nude photos of herself. Police said the girl agreed, and after doing so she was told she needed to send more or the original images would be shared "globally" on Facebook.

On Thursday, police said they were notified of a new development in the case. Another girl, who is friends with the first girl, was contacted on Facebook and had the nude photos sent to her.

The person who sent them threatened to distribute the images if the second girl didn't send naked photos of herself, as well.

McMinnville police said Friday they are working aggressively to identify and prosecute the suspect.

They are asking for any other families who have had similar online blackmail attempts to report it immediately. If it happened very recently and the information is still on the computer, leave it alone so that investigators can examine it as evidence.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call Detective Scott Fessler at 503-435-5616.

Police also recommend that parents monitor their children's social media use to protect against online predators. That includes checking to see who has access to their profiles and making sure they are only "friends" with people they know in person.

Inappropriate or criminal behavior should be reported to local law enforcement agencies or www.cybertipline.com.
