SCAM ALERT

Caller impersonating MCSO deputy asks for payment for fine

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is warning of a recent scam in the Valley where a caller pretends to be a deputy telling you to pay up for a citation.

The caller claims you have an outstanding arrest warrant because of a ticket that was never paid or for a failure to appear for jury duty.

The caller refers to himself as a Maricopa County sheriff's deputy and claims you'll be arrested if you don't get a "Green Dot MoneyPak" and give the caller the access code.

Authorities say if you get a call like this, hang up and call the sheriff's office at 602-876-1011.
