PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A fire destroyed the mobile home of an elderly Phoenix couple.

The man and woman were awakened by a smoke alarm and somebody pounding on their front door near Cave Creek and Bell roads, said a Phoenix Fire Department spokesman.

The homeowner grabbed a gun for protection, made his out a door and then saw flames from the kitchen just after 6 a.m., the spokesman said.

He went back and was able to get his wife out.

An unidentified person in a white truck had stopped and was pounding on the door to alert them, the spokesman said.

The mobile home was a complete loss, but no one was injured, the spokesperson said.

No other information, including the cause of the fire, was immediately available.
