Threat of hillside collapse leads to Lake Oswego evacuation

Posted: Updated:
LAKE OSWEGO, OR (KPTV) -

A hilltop home in a Lake Oswego neighborhood was evacuated Monday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the neighborhood off of Upper Cherry Lane and Bergis Road.

Firefighters said the ground began shifting Monday and there was fear of a hillside collapse. Investigators believe a water main broke on Saturday and has been leaking water ever since.

A neighbor noticed a dark spot in the snow and called authorities.

There were no reports of property damage early Monday evening, but mud had slid to the bottom of the hill.

Initially, crews at the scene thought as many as three homes might have to be evacuated.
