PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Several business owners have some real messes to clean up after last week's snowstorms caused significant damage to their buildings.

The combination of freezing rain and about 6 inches of snow caused Urban Farm Store's roof to collapse sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, the store's owner Robert Litt said. The store is located at 2100 Southeast Belmont Street in Portland.

The store was closed at the time, and no one was hurt, Litt said.

Litt said his alarm company called and broke the news to him about what happened.

"It was pretty much a scene of utter devastation inside," Litt said.

Since the store's roof came down, Litt said water has been pouring in. He's already lost quite a bit of inventory, including some feed that's now soaking wet.

The store is closed indefinitely.

Litt is asking customers to be patient as he finalizes a temporary location. He may use the store's parking lot with temporary storage, he said.

"If (customers) can hold on for a week or two by maybe stretching their feed by adding some human food scraps or something like that ... we'll be right back with them by then," Litt said.

Litt said he hopes insurance will cover most or all of the repairs.

Melting snow also caused extensive damage to the north wall at the West Slope Community Library in Portland's Raleigh Hills neighborhood.

"Yes, it is a bit of a mess," said Kirsten Freeman-Benson, services librarian.

Works have to dry out the carpet and remove wet insulation and paneling after water leaked through the library's roof, employees said.

No materials were damaged, Freeman-Benson said.

The library's magazine room will be closed until repairs can be made, but the main room and children's room are still open, she added.

"It's fine," Freeman-Benson said. "It turned out to be fairly minimal. I mean, it could be a lot worse."
