PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Detectives are now saying that a man who turned the gun on himself after fatally shooting his wife has died at the hospital.

Homicide detectives were investigating the double-shooting that happened just before midnight Saturday in the Richmond neighborhood of southeast Portland.

A Portland police spokesman said officers initially responded to a report of shots fired at an apartment complex in the 3300 block of Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard.

A tactical team was brought in and eventually made entry into an apartment where they found a woman deceased and a man suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The man was still alive and was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a life-threatening wound.

Neighbors told FOX 12 that the man was seen acting erratically in the courtyard of the Powell Crest Apartments.  Witnesses said he was waving a gun around and even told one person he had just shot his wife.

A neighbor said he then went into his apartment. That was the last time he was seen before police arrived.

Neither of the deceased persons' identities have been released. Autopsies were scheduled to take place on Monday.
