PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Portland police say a local teen was sexually assaulted by a stranger on her walk to school Monday morning.

It happened when the 16-year-old was walking to Parkrose High School near the intersection of NE 131st and Prescott Drive.

The teen reportedly told police she was walking to school alone when she was confronted by a stranger.

"It is really scary, because I get up at 7 to take my son to school, and I dropped him off and came back, took a nap and it seems like I would have heard something," said neighbor Demetrias Watier.

Police say the teen went to school after the attack and told staff there what happened. They were called to investigate around 1 p.m. Monday.

"It's kind of scary. I'm scared to walk home or walk to school, or anything like that," said Parkrose High School Junior Cosmina Ioanas. "If it was one of my friends, it would be really scary."

Before her attacker ran off, the 16-year-old says she was able to get a good look at the man.

The suspect is described as an black male, 6'1" tall, 220 pounds, with a medium-length afro with "twists" and wearing a jacket with black sleeves. Based on his voice, the victim believes he is 18 to 25 years old.
