State troopers announce Hampden County DUI checkpoint

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Massachusetts state troopers will hold a sobriety checkpoint in Hampden County on Friday night into Saturday morning.

State police have not release the name of the road, or the town that the DUI checkpoint will be held in.

According to a news release from the state police media relations office, the purpose of the checkpoint is to "further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public's awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways."

The checkpoint will be operated during varied hours and vehicle selection will not be arbitrary.

"Safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety," the news release stated.

This checkpoint was made possible by a grant provided by the Highway Safety Division of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
