A man guilty of attempted murder for a kidnapping, robbery and shooting in Vancouver in late 2012 was sentenced to more than 50 years behind bars.
A jury found Pedro Godinez Jr., 20, guilty in March on charges including attempted murder, kidnapping and robbery.
Investigators say Godinez's girlfriend at the time, 23-year-old Joanna Speaks, invited the victim to her apartment on Northeast 160th Avenue in Vancouver in November 2012 and set him up for Godinez to rob him.
Godinez showed up and forced the victim to drive at gunpoint to Lower River Road, before robbing him and shooting him multiple times.
The victim survived and managed to run to a nearby swamp. He then walked for more than a mile and found help at Kadow's Marina.
Godinez was arrested 10 days later.
The victim spoke in court in March when Godinez was found guilty.
"He shot me in the head and I thought I was done," said Freddy Landstrom. "I woke up and he looked at me and said, 'why won't you die?' and he shot me in the heart."
Speaks pleaded guilty for her part in the crime last July to charges of robbery and tampering with a witness. She was sentenced to three years and six months in prison with credit for time served.
Godinez was sentenced Wednesday to 50 years and seven months in prison, with three years post-prison supervision upon release.
