Woodburn neighborhood targeted by vandals again

Posted: Updated:
WOODBURN, OR (KPTV) -

Vandals targeted homes in Woodburn Tuesday, and police believe it is connected to other acts of vandalism in the same neighborhood from several months back.

At least 15 separate incidents of vandalism were reported at The Estates Golf and Country Club, including phone and cable wires being cut and graffiti painted on homes.

Houses, vehicles and golf carts were all hit with silver and yellow spray paint.

The vandalism occurred between Cascade Drive and Oregon Way.

"I was a little upset," said Darlene Gordon, who found out her home was vandalized after a police officer knocked on her door to see if she had filed a police report. "Why they just picked houses at random, and why my car and not his car, I just thought that was strange."

"I was just devastated," said Darlene Ford, whose home was also vandalized.

Notes left behind at some of the homes had claims they were written by employees of Woodburn's public works department. One note said, "We the people of WMD and WPW (Woodburn public works) do not appreciate the endless complaints and pointing of fingers of wrong doing (sic) on the subject of the I5 project."

It then named specific people and said, "Ease off this childish game. Oh and April Fools." One of the two men that were referenced in the letter told a FOX 12 reporter on Wednesday night that he doesn't know why his name was referenced. He also doesn't have any idea who many have been behind the vandalism, he said.

Police said the notes did not come from anyone working for the city.

Back in December, homes in the same area were vandalized. During that spree, police said 14 homes were hit with messages, including "I tired of you old people."

Investigators believe the two situations are connected.
