YAMHILL, OR (KPTV) -

A 20-year-old man was shot and killed in Yamhill and investigators said his friend was handling the gun at the time it was fired.

Emergency crews responded to a 911 call about a shooting on East Azalea Street in Yamhill at 9 p.m. Saturday.

The victim, Colby Duyn, was treated at the scene and taken to Willamette Valley Medical Center. He died later that night.

The Yamhill County District Attorney's Office said the person handling the 9mm pistol at the time of the shooting was Chad Barton, 19.

Investigators said Duyn and Barton were longtime friends and had been together for several hours before the shooting.

It does not appear drugs or alcohol were factors, according to the district attorney's office. Investigators said it was an apparent accidental shooting, however no other details were revealed.

The investigation is continuing.
